Apple Environmental Services began in 1976. Dr. Lew Naylor was working at Knouse Foods Coop, Inc. as Manager of Environmental Affairs. Knouse Foods processes a variety of fruit: apples, peaches, blueberries, cherries, and more. A plant manager suggested that Lew might want to hang out a shingle some day, and should begin a consulting business to the fruit and vegetable industry. Thus, the word Apple refers to the fruit, and not to the computer company which began also in 1976. Nonetheless, virtually all computer work has been accomplished on Apple Computers, beginning with the Apple II to the present.
Clients have included Siemens, Inc., Waste Management Inc., and many engineering consulting firms.
